Tsuji, Antonella, Berger Headline IMATS L.A.

xxxxKazuhiro Tsuji, whose work on the films Click and Norbit earned him two Oscar nominations, will design and apply an original prosthetic make-up at this year’s International Make-Up Artist Trade Show, held June 21-22 at the Pasadena Convention Center. This is a first IMATS engagement for Tsuji, who has been booked as a keynote speaker.
xxxxxTsuji is not the only new attraction at IMATS, now entering its 11th year. Beauty artist Antonella (whose long list of celebrity clients includes Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Biel and Heather Locklear) is another first-time IMATS keynote speaker. She has extensive print experience, but has also worked in film and television.
xxxxxKNB EFX Group founding member Howard Berger rounds out the keynote speaker schedule. KNB, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, has contributed to dozens of films and television shows, including Transformers, Deadwood and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which won the 2006 Oscar for Achievement in Makeup. Berger will discuss his work on the recently released film The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian at the show.
xxxxxWriter and film memorabilia collector Ron Magid is directing the make-up museum for a second year, stocking it with his own and possibly other collections. Magid has pieces dating back to the 1930s, including the original wax head used in The Mummy, as well as several pieces from Planet of the Apes and the work of John Chambers and Tom Berman. There will be “a lot of weird and bizarre stuff,” he said, ranging from masks to prosthetics to hairpieces.
xxxxxTrade-show guests can also expect educational seminars and shopping opportunities at the show. Educators (to be announced at makeupartistshow.com) will stage discussions and demonstrations, and more than 80 exhibitors will share the exhibit floor, including cosmetic manufacturers, products and accessories manufacturers, supply houses and make-up schools.
xxxxxProfessional make-up artists working in film, TV, print and theater will attend IMATS, along with make-up school students. Some of these will be finalists in the Student Competition, which is split into fantasy/beauty and character/prosthetic categories. In each category, eight finalists will compete against one another and the clock to create a look based on a theme. The 2008 beauty theme is Greek Mythology, while the character theme is Werewolves.
xxxxxTwo-day tickets to IMATS cost $65; one-day tickets are $35. Both offer access to the exhibit floor, keynote speakers and classes. A one-day, exhibit-floor-only ticket is $15; a one-day ticket for children ages 5-10 is also $15 (children under 5 are admitted free). Tickets can be shipped before June 19; afterward, they’ll be available at Will Call the day of the show. The Pasadena Convention Center is located at 300 E. Green St. in Pasadena, California.

Tickets can be purchased here.
