Character Competition Rules:

1. One model per competitor.

2. No assistants will be permitted. The competitor must apply all make-up by him/herself.

3. All appliances used will be provided by Make-Up Artist magazine.

4. Outside foam appliances are not permitted—with the exception of a bald cap or lace hair pieces.

5. Models must arrive with no make-up on prior to the start of the competition. (Natural hair and wardrobe may be done in advance but note that ONLY make-up and hand-laid hair will be judged.)

6. Models must be prepared to show a “before” photo of themselves on the day of the competition. (Points will be deducted if photo is not supplied.)

7. Talking will not be permitted during the competition unless it aids the make-up artist in application of make-up to the model.

8. All competitors must supply their own make-up.

9. Nudity is not allowed. If you are not sure if your design will comply, contact the show management for approval.

10. Each competitor must be a current student or recent graduate (within the last 12 months) from a recognized school. You will need to provide a letter from your school.

Judging

Judging will be conducted by professional make-up artists. The decisions made by the judges are and will remain final.

1. Competitors will be judged on a scale of 1-10, one being the lowest score, ten being the highest.

2. Judging categories will be as follows: Character Design, Appliance Application, Hair Work, Color and Overall Presentation.

3. Judging will be based solely on make-up and hair work, not costumes and props, etc.

4. First, Second, and Third Place will be awarded in each category.

Additional Information
Competitors will share an eight-foot table with one other competitor. The following will be provided at each competitor’s station:

Lighted station with mirror
One chair for the model
One wastebasket
Electrical outlets

Should a problem arise, please notify the Competition Official. Please note: Failure to follow Make-Up Competition rules, regulations, and guidelines will result in disqualification from the competition.
